OTHER IMPORTANT POINTS:

1) Land locator beacon or emergency locator beacon is a battery powered radio transmitter device used by hikers, cross-country skiers or any other person in distress who is in prompt need of being rescued. Once the lost hiker or a lost traveller switches on the beacon, it continously emits radio signal which in turn is picked up by the search & rescue teams to quickly find the emergency & render aid. Registration of beacon is mandatory with the Indian Mission Control Centre (INMCC) and can be done free of cost at http://inmcc.istrac.org
For further information about the uses, satellites, search centres etc. of hte beacon kindly refer to this brochure by ISRO: https://inmcc.istrac.org/brochurehtml/Images/Brochure.pdf

2) India is a multi-lingual country and it is always beneficial to learn the basic emergency phrases of the local language of a particular area/region like “I need help”, “Could I please make an emergency phone call”,“Where is the nearest hospital/police station/embassy?” etc.

3) Apart from the above contact details make sure to regularly inform your loved ones about your current location & your plans. Also, if you are a foreign traveller, then keep the contact details of your respective embassy/consulate handy at all times.
