Kumbhalgarh fort which is included in the list of the World Heritage Sites, is a very popular day trip from Udaipur.  Located in the small town of Kumbhalgarh, this fort is the longest fort in India and the walls of this fort are second longest in the world after the Great wall of China. Built in the 15th century by Maharana Kumbha, Kumbhalgarh fort is also the birthplace of the legendary king of Mewar: Maharana Pratap who fought the battle of Haldighati against the mughals and emerged victorious. This fort has many fascinating historical stories associated with it. People heading to Udaipur, always make it a point to visit this fort on a day trip. Hence, this fort attracts lot of people from all over the world.

Time taken to reach the fort: 2.5 hours

How to reach: The only way to reach is by road either by taking regular buses or with a vehicle.

Entry fees: Rs. 15/-

Timings: 9 AM – 5 PM daily

This day trip can be combined with a visit to the Ranakpur Jain Temple. Apart from that this fort has 360 temples located inside it’s complex and is about 2000 meters above sea level. The fort is 36 km in length which makes it the second most important fort after Chittorgarh fort. The strong & broad wall of the fort can withstand 8 horses side by side and the structure of the fort is unbeatable till date. 

There are 360 temples inside the fort premises and Shiva temple, which contains the Shivaling in the Phallic form is the highlight and is worth a visit. Apart from that one should visit the Badal Mahal which is one of the palace in the fort. Maharana Pratap, the ruler of Mewar, was born inside this palace. It’s a great place to explore for people interested in history. Also, if one needs to stay for a weekend if one wishes to visit all the 360 temples inside the temple premises.
